Issue 1 Vol. 1
Editor's
Corner
Attention future writers! Are you trying
your hardest for the editor of some newspaper to listen to you but
keep on getting the door slammed in your face? Do people tell you
that you will never make it as a writer? Do you doubt your ability
to write? Guess what?! There is hope! If you are determined to work
hard and use this big monster called "rejection" as a stepping
stone, you can do anything!
Did you know that (according to
Chicken Soup for the Writer's Soul) Jack London received
600 rejection slips before he sold first story. Now he is
famous for his White Fang, Call of the Wild and
many other books and short stories.
The famous Chicken Soup for the
Soul book series was turned down by over one hundred publishers
before Health Communications Inc., published it. Over 50 million
copies of their books have been sold in thirty-one languages!
Pearl Buck's The Good Earth was
rejected fourteen times and went on to win the Pulitzer Prize,
according to Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, and Bud Gardner.
Leon Uris failed high school English
three times. Leon went on to write Exodus which turned out
to be a best seller!
The point I am trying to make here is
that every writer will face some obstacles of some sort, some minor
and major. It are those writers who use these obstacles as
stepping stones. Remember, if you are just beginning to get into the
writing career, you are not going to be famous over night. It takes
time, years even. The trick is never to give up, look back or
let anyone tell you that you are not good enough to be a writer. And
always practice. That means write, write, and write some more. Check
